Guys, I've been so over the top excited to share this big office makeover with you all! First things first, this beautiful charming little office belongs to my fellow girl boss friend, Catherine of Catherine Threlkeld Photography. If you haven't already heard of her or clicked on her website that I linked, she is an incredibly talented photographer and shoots just about anything but her true speciality is wedding photography! She's good guys, like reaaaaaal good.
Lucky for me, Catherine has phenom taste and already had a lot of great ideas for the bigger pieces. I had a blast reviewing her "vision" and pulling it all together to work cohesively and in scale with the somewhat small space.
Here are some before pics that I snapped during our consult...
As you can see, it's so charming with the brick and the room gets incredible natural light - a photographer's dream!
The wall-to-wall carpet had to stay, but we could change the paint and obviously add what ever furnishings we wanted.
So we got rid of the blue walls and painted the top and bottom of the chair-rail the same color. Easy peasy! We used "Vanilla Milkshake" by Ben Moore and it came out beautiful.
For those that regularly visit the HOP blog, you probably heard of "Vanilla Milkshake" from my Favorite Neutral Paint Colors post, just a couple of weeks ago. : )
Let me share a little pro tip - The key to using white on walls is to make sure the room gets a good amount of natural light so that the light can bounce around and basically do really beautiful things. When using white on walls in a space that is naturally dark, the room will ultimately feel sterile and just plain blah.
Another easy way that we added some warmth, texture and personality was with the area rug. The existing dark blue wall-to-wall carpet was any thing but desirable, but layering an area rug on top of it definitely did the trick!
We used a natural fiber rug because they're great for high traffic areas and four-legged friends like Catherine's dog, Penny!
Light, bright and oh so good.
Those expensive looking white drapes are Ikea. Yup, you heard me right. Two panels come in a pack for just $25. That is almost unheard of.
The desk is also from Ikea. It's considered a table but if you're not in need of something that has all of the bells and whistles (drawers, file storage, etc.) then it works perfectly as a desk!
There's Penny! Isn't she so sweet?!
Oh and that desk chair is from CB2 and it's just as gorgeous in person as it is in these photos. You're welcome.
Catherine brought back that beautiful painting from Paris...how dreamy? I love the pop of color that it adds to the space.
We dressed up the walls with some of Catherine's favorite pieces of work. They look absolutely beautiful and represent how amazing Catherine's work really is. They tell a perfect story.
Lastly, we added this stunner of a bookcase to display some decorative accents but also serve as storage for business cards, files, display books and boxes, and so much more!
Most of the accessories we used are Target and HomeGoods finds - two of my go-to places when it comes to finishing touches. : )
And that wraps up this office makeover folks! Feel free to drop a comment or question below, I'd be happy to answer any feedback!!
