Art is one of those things that can either make or break a space. A poor choice in art can make a space look cheesy, while an awesome choice in art can take a space to the next level (in a good way!). With that said, art is extremely personal which can make it difficult to select if you're not entirely sure what you like or even what will work with your space. There are SO many different types of art - painting, mixed media, drawing, photography, etc. So when you're trying to select art for your space but are feeling a little stumped, my first rule would be to determine what you like or even what you don't like to rule out the obvious. For me, I gravitate towards paintings but also like very selective photography-type art.
Good art selections can be the glue that ties a space together. It can contribute to the room's color palette, tone and overall mood.
Where as bad art selections can totally make a space feel cheesy. Here are some things to avoid as well as where I like to shop to find tasteful replacements. I'll also be revealing a roundup of my favorite art pieces that are available to shop today, so be sure to make it through the whole post!
Generic art prints like replications of Van Gogh's, The Starry Night or a print of one of Monet's famous paintings. These are all beautiful originals so let's keep them that way and not hang replication prints of some serious works of art.

Again, if you're feeling as though you really like a particular famous painting or piece of art then identify what it is that you like about it. Is it that it's a landscape painting? Is it the colors used? Once you can pinpoint what it is that you like, finding more tasteful replacements will become easier as you can narrow down your search. I also love to shop on Etsy or at thrift stores for one of a kind, vintage finds. If you go this route, you have to be okay with not finding what you want when you want it and it'll require it some digging, but using Etsy, eBay or thrift stores is a fun way to add some great character to any space.

Support local photographers where the photographs evoke more meaning and beauty. Some of my favorites for photography art are...
Strange, tacky typography art. We get it, you love your family or having your toes in the sand but please avoid generic versions of this type of art. It screams cheap and cheesy. Don't get me wrong, typography art can be done right and look amazing in a space but I feel as though people gravitate towards the cheesy stuff much more. Why? I don't know but I do know that there are plenty of good typography art pieces out there at places like...
